iPhone Holder Project
I designed and built an iPhone holder for my car. I did this project because I want to have a dedicated place in my car to hold my iPhone so that it does not take up space in a cup holder, does not interfere with or distract me when I am driving, and can be charged and connected to my car's Apple CarPlay.
I used SolidWorks to design this part. I finalized the sizing, angles, and features of my iPhone holder. I tested the different aspects of my iPhone holder to ensure the feasibility and the actual size with respect to the location inside of my car.
My iPhone holder as a SolidWorks part in the design phase is shown below.
Location of iPhone Holder Inside My Car
The below image of my steering wheel gives perspective to the space and the driver's side of my car.
Below is an image of the area located to the left of my steering wheel. In this area, there is very little vertical or horizontal room that would be able to fit my iPhone. This location would only be feasible if I used an adhesive to hold my iPhone or made modifications to my car.
The below images show the location directly right of my steering wheel.
Below is an image showing the frontmost parts of my center console, the cubby under the radio interface, and the passenger dashboard.
After analyzing the different locations that I considered, I determined that it would be most feasible to install my iPhone holder inside the cubby directly below the radio interface on the center console. I have measured this specific area in order for the SolidWorks part to fit in this space. I 3D printed the STL file version of my SolidWorks part and placed the 3D printed part in my car. The 3D-printed part can be found below!
